Couples Therapy

What is Couples Therapy?

I am now offering couples therapy where I will see you both individually firstly to explore what the difficulties are from your point of view and what you would like going forward, following our individual sessions we will begin to meet together where you will as a couple have the opportunity to explore what is bringing you to therapy, consider what your goals are, what you would like to get from the sessions. It can help identify unhealthy patterns that you may find your relationship stuck in, and find resolutions together.

There are many different reasons why you may be considering couples therapy, it is normal for relationships to have ups and downs, and often couples struggle to communicate affectively and find solutions to their difficulties.
People may also access couples therapy to promote an amicable separation and/or consider their options for the future regarding their relationship/ family. Attending therapy can help you manage a breakup/separation, and come to agreements around what challenges will inevitably follow that, it can help ensure a smoother transition for yourselves and everyone involved, as well as practical arrangements such as dividing possessions, arrangements for children, etc.

Couples sessions are not about blame, rather giving you both a voice to express your feelings, and work through things together.

People considering couples therapy maybe feeling stuck, alone, confused amongst many other feelings, the sessions are an opportunity to explore the roots of the difficulties and consider solutions and becoming unstuck.
Fees for couples counselling are £70 per 50 minute session or £100 per 80 minute session.

Why Use Couples Therapy?

Seeking the guidance of a couples counselor can provide invaluable support and perspective for partners navigating challenges within their relationship. Firstly, a counselor offers a neutral and safe space where both individuals can express their thoughts and feelings openly without fear of judgment. This environment fosters effective communication, allowing couples to address underlying issues constructively. With the counselor's mediation, conflicts can be approached with empathy and understanding, leading to more productive resolutions.

Secondly, a counselor brings professional expertise and techniques to the table that can help couples understand the dynamics at play in their relationship. Through various therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or emotionally focused therapy, counselors can help partners explore deep-seated patterns, identify triggers, and develop healthier coping mechanisms.
These interventions not only address immediate concerns but also equip couples with the tools needed to navigate future challenges more effectively, fostering long-term relationship resilience.

Lastly, couples therapy provides an opportunity for personal growth and introspection. It encourages individuals to reflect on their own behaviors and perspectives, fostering self-awareness and empathy. By gaining insight into themselves and their partner, couples can cultivate a deeper understanding of each other's needs and vulnerabilities, fostering a stronger bond built on mutual respect and appreciation. In essence, couples counseling serves not only to mend rifts but also to strengthen the foundation of the relationship, paving the way for greater intimacy and fulfillment.
